A living map of Europe: history, news and debate, country by country.
The project
ExEuropa aggregates, country by country, the history, news and debate of the continent, to give a European reading of it. The map is not an illustration: it is the site’s main interface.
The reference civilisation
The guiding thread is a civilisation shaped by three contributions: the Greek city and its practice of deliberation, Roman law and its idea of a citizenship detached from origin, and the Judeo-Christian tradition with the dignity of the person it carried. This is not a thesis of exclusion: the map also shows what Europe owes its neighbours and its contacts.
Data and sources
The base map comes from Natural Earth (public domain), projected in Lambert azimuthal equal-area. The indicators are reference orders of magnitude, presented as such. Infrastructure routes are schematic and meant for overall reading, not precise location.
